About Dhampur:

Dhampur is a city and a municipal board in Bijnor district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Dhampur is one of the leading integrated sugarcane processing companies in India and we have always believed in harnessing the full potential of sugarcane. Demography :

Dhampur had 12,046 inhabitants in 1941. As of 2001 India census, Dhampur had a population of 46,855. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Dhampur has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 68% and female literacy is 60%. In Dhampur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Economy:

Dhampur's economy is based on agriculture, mainly sugarcane, wheat, and rice. Hand-woven textile items produced by the weavers living in surrounding areas are known for their utility and designs. The State Government set up a Handloom Intensive Development Project at Dhampur and several production centres are located in the area, with its central office headquartered at Kanpur.

One of the largest sugar producers in India, Dhampur Sugar Mills, is located here. Set up in 1933, Dhampur Sugar Mills is a publicly listed sugar manufacturer, which produces the Dhampure brand of sugar products. DSM is now a corporate partner with Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Ltd.

Pilgrims that have come to these places have included Jama Masjid, Unchi Masjid Pahari Darwaza Masjid, Holy Eid Gaah, Masjid Pir Shah (Ek Minara Masjid), Masjid Maniharan, Masjid Kaharan and Sabirwali Masjid. Gurdwara Shri Singh Sabha Punjabi colony is a holy Sikh temple in the city. Sikhs from around Dhampur and Bijnor come to Prayers.

Education:

The premier secondary educational institution in Dhampur are Disha Institute of Science & Technology, Pushp Niketan School, St. Mary's Convent School, R.S.M. Inter College, K.M. Inter College, Kanya Inter College, Priyanka Modern School, Saraswati Vidya Mandir and Shikhar Shishu Sadan.

There are five degree colleges in Dhampur: R.S.M. (PG) College, S.B.D. College, Dhampur Law College and Dhampur Degree College. However, most people remain uneducated.
